Young Adult Sitting Group

  • Insightla

Sunday Evenings at 7:00pm - 8:30pm (with tea + connection afterwards until 9pm)

I curate a drop in, donation based sitting group for folks in their 20's + 30's, offered every Sunday evening at InsightLA Olympic.

The intention is to create a space of collective wisdom and sharing through sitting meditation with time for discussion. We may also choose readings together to reflect on or topics to explore with a focus on what's most alive in your practice, including how to live the teachings of mindfulness and compassion in daily life as a young person, navigating transitions, career, romantic partnerships, family, life choices, and how to live with greater clarity.

The schedule of teachers rotates-- for the most up to date list of who is scheduled to teach, click ILAYA sitting group page

This sitting group is drop in and (dana) donation based.

Daytime The 5 Spiritual Faculties

  • InsightLA

Tuesday Mornings 10:00am – 12:00pm

In this course we will explore the Buddha's teachings on five qualities that empower our meditation practice: The Five Spiritual Faculties.

These five empowerments -- faith, energy, mindfulness, concentration, and wisdom -- are our greatest friends and allies on the path of practice. These qualities are most powerful when they are in balance: traditionally we think of faith balancing wisdom, and energy balancing concentration, with mindfulness providing the inner strength to balance all of these as we stay present and awake in every aspect of our life.

Through meditation, instruction, and group discussion in this class, we will experience for ourselves how each of The Five Faculties can be developed and utilized for the cultivation of inner balance.

This class is appropriate for people with some prior meditation experience such as a Basics of Mindfulness or MBSR class who would like to deepen their practice. Classes will include time for meditation, meditation instruction, teachings and group discussion, and is designed to deepen your practice.

Liberation and The Eightfold Path

  • InsightLA 14th st.

Tuesdays 7:15 -9:15pm

Mindfulness is a powerful tool when applied thoughtfully in meditation and in daily life. In the wider scope of the Buddha's teachings, however, it is just one support for the cultivation of liberation and freedom from suffering, which is found within a larger path known as the noble eightfold path.

In this class series we'll dig a little deeper and explore the path factors of wise understanding, wise view, wise speech, wise action, wise livelihood, wise effort wise mindfulness and wise concentration and what it looks like to cultivate the path of freedom and liberation as a modern day householder, both in meditation, and off the cushion in daily life.

There will be time for meditation, teachings, discussion and some exercises to take home.

This class is appropriate for those students with previous mediation experience who have taken intermediate classes or Buddha's Path classes before.

This class is a Dana based class. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. Dana means giving. The suggested donation for this class series, which includes 6 classes, is $180 dollars.

Finding Joy and Ease: Living the Dharma in Everyday Life

  • InsightLA 14th st.

Tuesday Evenings from 7:15 - 9:15pm

The Buddha offered many practical teachings for "householders": those of us whose lives are devoted to work, family, friends, and community in addition to formal meditation and Dharma practice. How do we wake up in the world, just as it is today? The Dharma and daily life are really not separate.

Join us as we learn to develop ease, happiness, and joy, regardless of the changing conditions of our moment to moment experience. We will learn to inhabit our lives with more awareness, drawing from timeless teachings like the 5 precepts, mindful communication practices for difficult conversations, and practices to open the heart. In this class, we'll explore what it means to truly live the Dharma both on and off the cushion.

There will be time for meditation, teachings, discussion and some exercises to take home.

This class is appropriate for those students with previous meditation experience who have taken an introductory mindfulness class or a Buddha's Path class previously.

Through meditation, instruction, and group discussion in this class, we will explore the teachings of the buddha.

Cost: This class is a Dana based class. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. Dana means giving. The suggested donation for this class series, which includes 6 classes, is $180 dollars.

$30 per person of an average size class at InsightLA covers the cost of paying teachers, administrators, rent and outreach, as well as covering the participation of students who will pay less.

Please give generously. Your act of generosity is significant. The Buddha taught that all of the beautiful qualities of heart and mind begin with generosity: Generosity dissolves the separation of self and other… Giver receiver and gift intertwined. Everyone has a role to play in supporting the whole community practicing to their fullest potential.
